September 13 - Social Studies

Today in 4th block Social Studies we: 

1) Completed the Unit 1a assessment

Language Workshop - September 12

Today in class we....

1) continued to work on book projects. These projects will be due at the end of class on Tuesday, September 13

    a) students should have completed & handed in a self-created rubric
    b) students should be nearing the end of the project. They have been working on them in class for several days

2) we began a new unit: "LOL- Humor". We completed a graphic organizer the detailed the characteristics of humorous writing/literature

September 12 - 3rd block Social TStudies

In class today we....

1) Passed back the Unit1a assessment so students could see their grades. All students scored at 80% or better!

2) As a class we began setting up our notebook.

    a) We created a cover page- complete with title (unit 1b- rise of civilizations) and pictures
    b) We wrote down the essential & guiding questions
    c) We wrote down the 21 vocabulary words, & defined the first 5

Today in class we continued working on our book project.

September 6th - Language Workshop

Today in class students will....

1) Be introduced to the Book Project. We will spend some time going over the introduction sheet. Highlighting the options, discussing the options. Students will be expected to bring their materials to class to work on the project all throughout this week.

Social Studies - September 6th/7th - 4th block & 3rd block

Tuesday (4th block) and Wednesday (3rd block)

Today in class students will.....

1) complete folder stations from the previous week highlighting the Palieolithic & Neolithic Ages. Students will discover characteristics that set the 2 ages apart.

2) Students who are finished with the folder activity will begin working on the Unit 1a Study Guide. Students will have three options to complete the Study Guide. They will be able to: (1) create a set of notecards for each item listed (2) Outline the Study Guide providing important information from their notes/textbook (3) complete a graphic organizer. The study guide & their method of completing the study guide will be due the day students take their assessment. For 3rd block that will be Friday, September 9th. For 4th block that will be Tuesday, September 13th.

September 2nd Social Studies

Today in class, we will be completing the Palieolithic vs. Neolithic lessons.

When students are finished they will begin working on their Study Guide for the Unit 1a quiz.

3rd block quiz will be on Friday, September 9th
4th block quiz will be on Tuesday, September 13 (4th block quiz moved due to change in weekly schedule in the previous week)

Septmber 2nd Language Workshop

Today in class..

I will be collecting the weekly Reading Log & passing out the new Reading Log for the week on 9/6-9/9

Students will be taking a generic reading comprehension "assessment" in class.

Students who have not completed their "On-Demand" will do so today.

Reading Recommendation Form will be due on 9/13, not 9/7

August 31st Social Studies

Today in class students worked in groups to discover information about the 5 hominid groups. Students used reading material & reading notes for information that they put in their Social Studies notebook

August 31st & September 1st Language Arts

Read 2 poems "My Room" & "Patterns". Discussed perspective on poems & perspective in writing.

In our reflection journal we reflected on "My Room" - free-writing about their individual room. Share


Reading Log due Friday with a parent signature
Reading Recommendation form due date has been changed from the 7th of September to the 13th of September
